IBEW Local 191 Energized Work Policy

(1)  All work is to be done de-energized, with proper LockOut/TagOut procedures  
       followed.
       Establish an electriclly safe work condition by de-energizing, locking and tagging,
       grounding and testing to ensure the absence of voltage.

(2)  If work must be performed on energized equipment, work should be performed
       under an effective energized work policy that meets all the requirements of
       NFPA 80E (latest edition).  This standard includes an energized electrical work
       permit, with an acceptable justification for the live work to be performed, and 
       a description of the safe work practices to be employed.  Workers must wear
       flame resistant clothing and appropriate PPE for arc flash blast exposure.

IBEW Local 191 requests that all Members us NFPA 70E as a guideline when working on or around energized equipment as well as OSH Construction Standard 29 CFR 1926.

The LMCC has purchased four 40 cal Arc-Flash Suits that are available for loan to those contractors that have not yet purchased their own.  This equipment is currently available at the Mount Vernon and Wenatchee dispatch offices.  For access call the Everett office or any Local Union Staff member.

Safety Qualifications

Attention Members of IBEW L.U. 191,          
                   
We meet the 4th Tuesday of every month in Mt. Vernon Dispatch Trail.er at 6:00 p.m.  
 The next meeting is January 24th.   
We have created a form to fill out with the members Safety Qualification.  It's available  
on this website and should be at all Dispatch Halls.
Recently there have been many LOTO Procedure incidents, one of which resulted in a
member being hit with 277V.    
The Safety Committee is working on creating a class to educate members on why we  
LOTO and the procedures for LOTO.  
Craig Jones is the new Safety Representative for L.U. 191.  The Safety Committee will  
be working with Craig to facilitate Safe Work Practices.  We encourage all members to

There are likely many 191 members who are considering taking some safety  
courses to add this qualification to their portfolios. These members are    
encouraged to check the 191 website and click on the "Safety" tab where there  
will be a list of available safety classes.
